Timber decking

Is timber decking still fashionable?

In a word, Yes. Although many people are now having composite decking installed, we still build many timber decks for customers each year. Not only are they less costly to build, there is a bit more flexibility when it comes to shapes, especially curves, and for the more traditional buildings a timber deck is sometimes the only way to go. All of our timber decks are source using FSC certified suppliers, and all of our timber is pressure treated giving a 10 year guarantee against rot and insect infestation.

Advantages of timber decking

When a new product, like composite, comes on to the market, it is sometimes easy to forget about the product it came to replace. As a natural product, timber is strong, flexible and can be manipulated to create what you need. With a plethora of products on the market including oils, stains and paints, you can customise your timber deck in pretty much any way you wish. Fancy a change after a couple of years, then change the colour. And don't forget, a timber deck will cost you less to install than the modern alternative.

Care and maintenance

As a natural product, your timber deck will require regular upkeep and maintenance. Timber is prone to staining if things get left sitting for a while and will shrink and expand depending on the weather conditions. To get the best out of your timber deck, we recommend treating it every 2 years at least with a good quality decking specific stain, oil or paint (always follow manufacturers instructions). It will need regularly sweeping down and depending on localised conditions may need some anti-slip product applying to make it more user friendly.
